Hydrea 500 Mg Capsule is an orally active anticancer agent which is used alone or in combination with other cancer drugs or radiotherapy for the treatment of various chronic myeloid leukemia and cancers of the head, neck, and cervix. It is also used in reducing the painful crisis and reduce the need for blood transfusions in adults and children (2 years of age and older) with sickle cell anemia. It should be used under the supervision of a qualified physician.

How To Take

Hydrea 500 Mg is usually taken once per day at the same time of day, with or without food. Swallow the pill whole with a glass of water. Wash your hands before and after you handle this medicine or the bottle that contains the pills. For best protection, wear disposable gloves when handling the pills.

Warning

Before starting Hydroxyurea treatment, make sure you tell your doctor about any other medications you are taking (including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, herbal remedies, etc.).  Do not take aspirin, or products containing aspirin unless your doctor specifically permits this.

Do not receive any kind of immunization or vaccination without your doctor’s approval while taking Hydroxyurea.

Inform your health care professional if you are pregnant or may be pregnant prior to starting this treatment. Pregnancy category D .

For both men and women: Do not conceive a child (get pregnant) while taking Hydrea 500 Mg. Barrier methods of contraception, such as condoms, are recommended. Discuss with your doctor when you may safely become pregnant or conceive a child after therapy.

Do not breast feed while taking Hydrea 500 Mg.

People who are not taking Hydrea 500 Mg should not be exposed to it.  If powder from a capsule spills, it should be wiped with a damp disposable towel, placed in a plastic bag, and discarded.  Hands should be washed thoroughly.

Uses

Hydrea 500 Mg is used in people with sickle cell anemia to reduce the number of painful crises caused by the disease and to reduce the need for blood transfusions. It is also used to treat several types of cancer (such as chronic myelogenous leukemia, squamous cell carcinomas)
