Novelon Tablet is a combination medicine used for oral contraception (prevention of pregnancy). Novelon Tablet medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy are not clinically established.

Novelon Tablet is used as an oral contraception for prevention of pregnancy. Novelon Tablet medicine works by preventing the process of ovulation and also affects sperm movement in the womb and inhibits its union with the egg. Novelon Tablet medicine should not be consumed by patients below 18 years of age due to risks associated with it.

The dosage of Novelon Tablet medicine should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food but make sure you consume it at fixed time. Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during the course of Novelon Tablet medicine as it may lead to certain side effects.

How To Take

Take Novelon Tablet medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Novelon Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Warning

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

Are allergic to ethinylestradiol or desogestrel, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine

Have or have ever had a blood clot in a blood vessel of your legs (deep vein thrombosis, DVT), your lungs (pulmonary embolus, PE) or other organs

Have or ever had a heart attack or stroke, angina pectoris (a condition that causes severe chest pain and may be a first sign of a heart attack)

Have a type of migraine called ‘migraine with aura’

Have inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis) or liver disease

Are suspected of having breast cancer or cancer of the genital organs

Have any unexplained bleeding from the vagina

Have overgrowth of the lining of the uterus (womb)

Uses

Novelon Tablet combination hormone medicine is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: a progestin and an estrogen. Novelon Tablt works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the uterus, it passes out of the body.

Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, decrease your risk of ovarian cysts, and also treat acne.

Using this Novelon Tablet medicine does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia).
