6-MP Tablet
6-MP Tablet is essentially a combination drug, which is used with other drugs to treat lymphatic leukemia. Known as an antimetabolite, 6-MP Tablet prevents the growth of cancer cells.
It is essential that you provide your doctor with a complete medical history before you start the treatment. This is mostly because some medical problems and medicines come in the way of the effectiveness of the drug. For instance tell you doctor if you suffer from a renal or liver issues, infections, anemia, and low platelet levels or have unusual bleeding.
The drug can be taken with a meal or without. The dosage should be taken as per the doctor’s guidance. Make sure that take in a lot of fluids when using 6-MP Tablet. If you do miss a dose of 6-MP Tablet, consult your doctor immediately.
When considering side effects of 6-MP Tablet, you may experience weakness, headaches, hair loss and skin darkening. In case of males, their sperm count may reduce.

How To Take
Mercaptopurine is taken by mouth (in the form of a tablet or a liquid), once a day. Ideally it should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication, but avoid milk products if possible.
If taking the liquid formula, be sure to shake well for 30 seconds before dispensing the dose. Measure dose with an oral dosing syringe to assure proper dose is administered
It is important to make sure you are taking the correct amount of medication every time. Before every dose, check that what you are taking matches what you have been prescribed.
6-MP can interact with other medications, impacting how they work. These medications include allopurinol, febuxostat, warfarin (Coumadin®), Echinacea, olsalazine, mesalamineand sulfasalazine. Be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you take before taking mercaptopurine.

Warning
Before taking mercaptopurine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to azathioprine; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease, cancer, a certain enzyme disorder (TPMT deficiency).
Mercaptopurine can make you more likely to get infections or may worsen any current infections. Avoid contact with people who have infections that may spread to others (such as chickenpox, measles, flu). Consult your doctor if you have been exposed to an infection or for more details.
Do not have immunizations/vaccinations without the consent of your doctor. Avoid contact with people who have recently received live vaccines (such as flu vaccine inhaled through the nose).
To lower the chance of getting cut, bruised, or injured, use caution with sharp objects like razors and nail cutters, and avoid activities such as contact sports.

6-MP Tablet is used with other drugs to treat a certain type of cancer (acute lymphocytic leukemia). It is a chemotherapy drug that works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells.
