Acamprol 333 Mg Tablet is used with proper counseling for people dealing with alcoholism. It helps reduce alcohol dependency of people. It works by repairing the chemical balance in the brain. It is advised to not use this medication while still drinking alcohol.
Possible side effects of this medicine include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, gas, and stomach pain, loss of appetite, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, fatigue, weight gain or loss, muscle pain, joint pain, change in sexual desire or decreased sexual activity. If you observe any of these side effects, it is recommended to consult your doctor or health care provider before using this medicine. Inform your doctor or health care professional if you observe severe side effects such as stomach pain, black stool, vomit that appears as coffee grounds and seizures. If these side effects worsen, seek medical help right away. This medicine also has few allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of throat, face or lips, dizziness and trouble in breathing. Therefore, it is best to contact your doctor before using this medicine.
Before taking this medication, consult your doctor if you are allergic to it or the ingredients present in them. Also, inform your doctor if you are taking any prescription medicine or non-prescription medicine and medical problems such as kidney disease. It is recommended to not use this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

How To Take
It is intended for oral use only, usually taken with regular meals. The recommended dose of acamprosate is two 333 Mg tablets (666 Mg per dose) taken three times daily.

Warning
The safety and efficacy of acamprosate has not been established in patients younger than 18 years or older than 65 years. Acamprosate is therefore not recommended for use in these populations.
The safety and efficacy of acamprosate has not been established in patients with severe liver insufficiency (Childs-Pugh Classification C).
Because the interrelationship between alcohol dependence, depression and suicidality is well- recognized and complex, it is recommended that alcohol-dependent patients, including those treated with acamprosate, be monitored for such symptoms.
Abuse and dependence
Non-clinical studies suggest that acamprosate has little or no abuse potential. No evidence of dependence on acamprosate was found in any clinical study thus demonstrating that acamprosate has no significant dependence potential.
Uses
This medication is used along with counseling and support to help people who are alcohol dependent not drink alcohol. Acamprosate works by restoring the natural balance of chemicals in the brain (neurotransmitters).
Before starting this medication, you should no longer be drinking alcohol. Acamprosate has not been shown to work well if you are still drinking alcohol when you start taking it.
