Zocor 40 Mg Tablet is used to reduce the level of bad cholesterol in the body. It is also used in the treatment of long-term complications such as heart disease or stroke. A proper diet and regular exercise should be maintained along with taking this medicine.
Zocor 40 Mg Tablet is present in a cluster of drugs known as ‘statins’. It helps in reducing levels of triglycerides and LDL, also referred to as ‘bad cholesterol’ in the blood and increasing the concentration of HDL (High Density lipoprotein, also called ‘good cholesterol’). Other complications of a heart attack, stroke and associated risk factors can be mitigated in people who suffer from diabetes or other coronary disorders. This drug can be used in case of adults as well as children (who should at least be 10 years old).
Though rare, intake of Zocor 40 Mg Tablet can damage the muscle tissues of the skeletal system, thus causing kidney failure. Seek timely medical attention if you happen to experience tenderness, muscle pain or weakness accompanied by a fever, unusual fatigue and urine that’s dark in color.

How To Take
Take Zocor 40 Mg by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the evening. If you are using the tablet form of this medication, you may take this medication with or without food.
If you are using the liquid form of this medication, take this medication on an empty stomach. Shake the bottle well for at least 20 seconds before each dose. Carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.
Dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, age, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products). Chinese patients taking niacin may require lower doses of simvastatin. Ask your doctor for more details.

Zocor 40 Mg is not recommended for pregnant women.
Zocor 40 Mg is not recommended for breastfeeding women.
Zocor 40 Mg Tablet can cause forgetfulness, memory loss and confusion. These side effects are reversible once the medicine is stopped.
Zocor 40 Mg Tablet may increase the blood glucose levels. Monitoring of blood glucose levels is necessary while you are on this medicine.
Zocor 40 Mg Tablet may increase the risk of Myopathy and Rhabdomyolysis which is a muscular disease. The risk of causing Myopathy is higher in the elderly population, and hence it should be used with caution.
Zocor 40 Mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients who consume large quantities of alcohol and/or have a history of the chronic liver disease.
The safety and efficacy of Zocor 40 MG Tablet have not been established in the children less than 10 years of age.
Zocor 40 Mg Simvastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs known as "statins." It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.
