Melgain Lotion (Decapeptide - Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor) is a topical vitiligo treatment which is made up of ten different amino acids. Melgain Lotion works by causing re-pigmentation of the skin. Patients affected by vitiligo suffer from white skin patches due to dipegmentation. The face, hands, wrists and elsewhere on the body can be affected. These symptoms occur because the condition causes the skin to lose melanin, the naturally occurring pigment which gives skin its colour.
The combination of 10 amino acids in this topical lotion is used together with other forms of treatment to restore colour to areas of skin that have lost pigmentation. A team of medical researchers established that the melanocytes (cells responsible for producing melanin) in the patch of skin affected do not produce melanin due to abnormal growth characteristics.
