Lignocaine belongs to a group medicines known as local anaesthetics. by temporarily blocking the pathway of pain signals along nerves. Pain is caused by the stimulation of pain receptors at the ends of nerves. stimulation causes sodium to enter the nerve ending, which causes an electrical signal to build up in the nerve. If allowed into the inner lumen, the jelly may dry on the inner surface leaving a residue which tends to clump with flexion, narrowing the lumen. There have been rare reports in which this residue has caused the lumen to occlude.
Lidocaine HCI 2% Jelly should be used with caution patients with known drug sensitivities. Patients allergic to para-aminobenzoic acid derivatives have not shown cross sensitivity to lidocaine.
